Why Selena Skipped the 2025 Grammys After Not Walking the Red Carpet

As you may have noticed, Selena Gomez was notably absent from the 2025 Grammy Awards red carpet on Sunday night. And honestly, it makes sense, seeing as the multi-hyphenate did not pick up any noms for her most recent song, which was her standalone single released in February 2024, "Love On."

Let's also not forget that Sel has a LOT going on at the moment. At the 2025 Golden Globes, she was nominated for not one but TWO awards (thanks to her work in Only Murders in the Building and Emilia Pérez), and she's also up for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 2025 BAFTA Awards. Plus, rumor has it that Selena *does* have some new music in the works....

On January 17, Sel's fiancé—music producer Benny Blanco—made a TikTok in response to a fan, who wrote, "Benny please make some new songs for our queen." In the vid, he opens a door to reveal Selena sitting in front of a recording mic, which is pretty telling.

A few days later, Selena took to her Instagram Stories to share a video of herself wearing headphones as a snippet of a song played on her computer, so fans have a preeeeetty good sense that she's back in the studio.

As recently as December 2024, Selena said she was getting "a little too old for the pop star life" during her chat with Saoirse Ronan for Variety’s Actors on Actors series...but perhaps the beauty guru has changed her mind!

Oh, and side note: Though Selena did not attend the 2024 Grammys ceremony, either, she DID make a surprise appearance at Gucci's Grammys after-party alongside Benny, soooo perhaps she'll do the same this year! Stay tuned for updates.
