Why Chelsea Handler Is So 'Moved'—and Inspired—by Taylor Swift (Exclusive)

Is Chelsea Handler Taylor Swift fan?

"How could you not be?" the comedian tells Parade in an exclusive interview that took place about week after she attended the Eras Tour in December.

"This girl just broke every record in the world. I'm amazed by her."

If there's one thing about Swift in particular that stands out to Handler, it's the pop star's supportive relationship with her family.

"The thing that I love so much about the last two years of watching her and watching her just dominate in such a huge way was watching her parents every single night at her show, watching her and singing and dancing along to her songs, and her brother, Austin [Swift]," Handler says. "That moved me so much to see that close-knit family and how supportive they are of her. And that's a tribute to why she's normal and happy."

Handler, one of six kids, is also tight with her family, with several stories from her upcoming seventh book, I'll Have What She's Having, featuring her siblings.

And that's not all Handler has in common with Swift: Like the pop star, she's had to work hard and hustle for her success.

"I've gotten myself this far, without a ton of help—other than, I mean, I've been born into my privilege of being a white, attractive woman. But nobody handed me anything," she tells Parade. "I had to hustle, just like everybody else had to hustle. And I continue to hustle, and I'm proud of that aspect of my personality, that I'm willing to work so hard."

She went on to paraphrase one of her "favorite quotes" from Swift. "She does this interview, and she's like, 'I'm never going to be sexy, I'm never going to be cool. I'm never going to be edgy,'" Handler says. "And they're like, 'Well, what are you?' And she goes, 'Well, I'm imaginative, I'm hardworking, and I'm smart.' And I'm like, 'Oh, that is such a beautiful message to send to every woman and young person in the world—that hardworking actually trumps so many other things.'"

That said, Handler adds in her signature deadpan, "I do consider myself edgy, sexy and cool."

I'll Have What She's Having, which is out Feb. 25 (Handler's 50th birthday), is available for preorder.
