Whoopi Goldberg jumps up, hugs Harvey Guillén during “View” chat about male loneliness and dating: 'I love you'
The show's moderator pulled the "What We Do in the Shadows" star into a warm embrace after he expressed the importance of self-love.
If Wednesday's episode of The View taught us anything, it's that Whoopi Goldberg absolutely adores Harvey Guillén.
The 69-year-old EGOT winner showered the 34-year-old What We Do in the Shadows star with compliments from the moment he sat down at the Hot Topics table, and even jumped up from her seat to pull him into a hug after they bonded during a discussion about dating, the male loneliness epidemic, and self-love.
The conversation revolved around Guillén’s new film, Companion, which follows the increasingly deadly relationship between a man (Jack Quaid) and his android girlfriend (Sophie Thatcher).
"When I read the script, there was shock value to the way some of these characters talk to their partners," Guillén explained. "Sometimes you see people paired off and you're like, 'You talk to your wife like that? You talk to your husband like that?' And whether it be the future where we do or may not involve robots or love partners or whatnot, how do you talk to a human being or other is very telling of yourself."

He continued, "Sometimes … people say, 'Oh, there's this epidemic of male loneliness,' which is a thing, but also sometimes the male has to stop and realize, 'Maybe I'm… need to fix myself.'"
Goldberg was on the exact same wavelength. "I have been saying this!" she exclaimed. Her cohost Sara Haines, quoting Taylor Swift's song "Anti-Hero," added, "I'm the problem, it's me!"
Guillén took it a step further, paraphrasing the great RuPaul when he quipped back, "How are you gonna love someone else if you can't love yourself?"
That was the final straw for Goldberg.
"Okay!" she declared, before launching herself out of her chair and pulling Guillén into a hug while her cohosts laughed. "I love you. Oh my God."

Before their interview concluded, Goldberg made sure to let the former Entertainment Weekly Pride cover star know that he always has a spot waiting for him at the Hot Topics table. "Harvey, you just make this your stop anytime you're doing anything," she said. "Or anytime you just wanna talk!"
"Thank you. I'm gonna take you up on that," Guillén said, to which Goldberg replied, "Yeah, do! Do. And Brian [Teta, The View’s executive producer] knows that I'm not playing with him, okay? That's right!"
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
