While Billy Mays is known to the world as the OxiClean pitchman who brought the cleaning product to its current fame, he also had two children: Billy Mays III and Elizabeth Mays.

Billy welcomed his son, Billy III, with his first wife, Dolores "Dee Dee" Mays, in 1986. After Billy and Dee Dee divorced, Billy married his second wife, Deborah, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth, around 2006. She was 3 years old when her father died in 2009 at age 50.

While Elizabeth maintains a low profile, Billy III has spoken publicly about his dad's life, legacy and their relationship. In 2024, he discussed his father's fame with PEOPLE, 15 years after Billy's death.

"He was beloved by the common man because that's where he came from," Billy III said. "He started to make it in his career when he was in his 40s. He was a hard-working dude."

Billy Mays III, 38

Billy and his first wife, Dee Dee, welcomed their son, Billy Mays III, in August 1986.

He was raised with his mother, Dee Dee, in Pittsburgh, and spent summers with his father in Florida. While Billy was based in the South, he often traveled for work and would see his son during stops in Pennsylvania, Billy III recalled to PEOPLE.

During the younger Billy's high school years, the traveling salesman's star began to rise and Billy III found humor and pride in it. "It was cool that my dad was doing his thing,” he told PEOPLE, recalling the memory of a teacher who would say his name during attendance and then ask, "Like the guy on TV?"

"I would always say, 'Never heard of him,' and the rest of my class would laugh because they knew who he was and who I was," Billy III said.

Following high school, Billy III moved to Florida to complete a bachelor's degree at Full Sail University while living near his dad.

"Eventually, after college, I moved into his house for about two or three years. It turned out to be the last five years of his life that I spent with him," he explained to PEOPLE. "We were getting to know each other as adults because we didn't spend as much time together as dads and sons do growing up."

As an adult, Billy III began working as a production assistant on his father’s shoots. "He brought me in one day after I was out of college and he basically told the producer to put me to work — a true nepo baby in the infomercial world," Billy III joked to PEOPLE.

"I got to work on the whole Pitchmen season, which was basically them filming us working in that year before he died," Billy III explained, referring to the reality TV series his famous dad worked on.

"There's one episode where I was heavily featured, and I got to direct my dad in a local commercial for a pizza shop. I ended up directing it," he said. "It was fun working with my dad all the time, but it was really cool working with him in that way."

In recent years, Billy III has shifted from predominantly working in production to concentrating on music. He developed an interest in music during high school, which his parents encouraged.

"My parents got along really well despite being divorced," Billy III said. "They both really supported the things I cared about, and me wanting to play music. My dad bought me a guitar and my mom took me to guitar lessons, and I loved it.”

These days, the musician is also the director of Billy Mays Here!, a philanthropic endeavor that honors his father’s life and work.

In his personal life, Billy III is married to Katie Hawkins-Gaar and the pair share a daughter.

The dad of one explained to PEOPLE that although he has grief over his child not knowing her grandfather, they often talk about Billy together.

"She doesn't have any grandpas, but she has two grandmas," Billy III said. "We tell her about her grandpas a lot.”

Elizabeth Mays

Billy welcomed his second child, Elizabeth, with his second wife, Deborah, around 2006.

While Elizabeth maintains a private life, Billy III shared photos of his younger sister and father on X (formerly Twitter) in June 2020, just months before he became a father himself.

“A lot of people don't know that his daughter, my sister was only 3 years old when he died. It was inspiring to watch him get to be a dad like this again, even more so now that I'm going to be a girl dad this October,” he wrote.
