“Wheel of Fortune” contestant gets surprise proposal on set after solving 'Will you marry me?' puzzle
"I'm still in shock," said contestant Rhea Mathew.
A Wheel of Fortune contestant received a special surprise on set during the game show's ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations.
Former contestant Rhea Mathew, who appeared on the show in October 2023, returned to play under the ruse that she was there to help ring in the milestone anniversary — but it was in fact an elaborate proposal staged by her boyfriend Robin Kuriakose. And everyone, including co-host Vanna White, was in on the plan.
The proposal was first staged with the puzzle phrase of "Will you marry me?" which Mathew successfully solved. Kuriakose then appeared on stage, and a stunned Mathew's eyes and jaw widened when it all began to dawn on her. And yes, she said yes!

Wheel of Fortune social correspondent Maggie Sajak — daughter of former host Pat Sajak — documented the before and after interview with the unassuming Mathew on social media. "Rhea thinks she's here for puzzle redemption, but little does she know... she's here to get engaged!" captioned Sajak, who even coyly asked if Mathew brought any family or friends with her.
"I actually brought someone very special with me today," said Mathew. "I brought my boyfriend Robin. He's one of my biggest supporters, so I'm really excited to share this magic with him." Later, after the tender moment, Mathew said she truly had no inkling that a proposal would unfold. "The most elaborate proposal I could ever — I'm still in shock," said Mathew.

Added Kuriakose, "I'm so happy that she got this moment, so thank you guys all for accommodating us and making it happen."
It's been a week of celebrations for the revered game show with Ryan Seacrest, who replaced longtime host Pat Sajak last fall following his retirement, at the helm. The show recently shared a behind-the-scenes set tour segment guided by Seacrest that offered a glimpse into all the departments that help make the show happen — and it featured a brief cameo from Sajak himself.
Sajak, who served as host for 41 seasons, could be seen eating a sandwich as Seacrest walks through the studio. "Of course, this is our former host. Hey, Pat," said Seacrest.
