July is upon us, the coats are on, the evenings long, and ‘Netflix and chill’ is no longer a euphemism but a shivering reality - for those who don’t have central heating anyway.

In these chilly months there really is no better way to spend your night than on a couch, with a bottle of red (or cup of tea for the dry-July participants) and a banging new series.

The good news is there are new series in spades headed for Aussie screens, here’s what’s on.

New seasons returning to Netflix

  • Orange is the New Black: Season 7

  • Stranger Things 3

  • Queer Eye: Season 4

New series additions

  • The Last Czars

  • Kath & Kim

Best classic films

  • The Shawshank Redemption

  • The Blind Side

Each an absolute zinger of a draw card, these latest additions will give you closure on your favourite series, tide you over while you wait for The Crown, and give you something sweet and nostalgic to keep you warm.

Orange is the New Black: Season 7

The ladies of Litchfield are back for their final season this July.

Those who have followed the cast along the bumpy ride have waited a year for their last moments with the characters, and we’re finally back - if only for one teary farewell.

Last year’s devastating finale looks to be kicked up a notch, and loose threads still floating shall be tied and I honestly couldn’t be any more excited.

Premieres 26th July

Stranger Things 3

More evil, more neon, more retro, Stranger Things is back for a third instalment this month.

The third season follows the gang as new and old foes return bigger, and badder than ever, and is one of the most highly anticipated returns of the year.

It also features a pretty fabulous new look for Eleven, and the same nostalgic 80’s setting that has every viewer adding some long forgotten tunes to their Spotify playlist at the end of each episode.

Queer Eye: Season 4

Bobby, Tan, Karamo, Jonathan and Antoni are back for more heart to warm your heart on a cold winter’s night.

The show follows the fab five as they make their way into a straight man’s life and spruce him into the best version of himself.

In the wake of their presence in Taylor Swift’s brand new music video, and on the back of the jaw-dropping success of the early seasons, the fourth season is another highly anticipated arrival this month.

It is also the TV show most likely to make 99% of viewers cry (statistic provided by my guess work).

Kath & Kim

‘uge news for fans of the Fountain Lake’s foxiest ladies; they are coming to Netflix and seasons 1 - 4 will be at your finger tips this July.

The Aussie comedy is an absolute icon and for anyone who hasn’t dipped their toes into the world of Kath Day Knight and her daughter Kimberly Diane Craig (apparently her full name), it’s your time to shine.

Hits screens 30th of July

The Last Czars

A brand new series from the streaming giant, The Last Czars follows the doomed Royal Russians - the Romanovs - in their final years of reign in the early 1900’s.

With the opulent feel of some of Netflix’s greatest dramas, Last of the Czars seems to want to bring the production of The Crown, to the drama of the Bolshevik revolution.

If my experience is anything to go by, this historical, royal drama that will have everyone reaching for their battered VHS version of Anastasia in no time at all.

Premieres 3rd of July

Shawshank Redemption & The Blind Side

Two blasts from the past - one a far more distant past - the addition of these heartbreakers will either help or hinder your attempts to choose a movie this month.

The critically acclaimed Shawshank is the best of 90’s filmmaking, and The Blind Side is the ever memorably comeback of Sandy B (and the one that got her an Oscar).

Both hit Netflix screens this July and should be added to mandatory viewing, or re-visiting.

Both hit screens the 15th of July

Stay warm out there folks.
