‘The Way Home’ Fans Are Fuming Over Hallmark's Big Change for Season 3

UPDATE, Dec. 30, 8:55 AM:

Thanks to "overwhelming demand" for The Way Home, Hallmark has changed its plans. The network announced on social media that instead of season 3 airing first on Hallmark+ and then on Hallmark Channel in the fall of 2025, The Way Home will now air new season 3 episodes every Friday on the Hallmark Channel starting January 3, 2025 at 9 P.M. ET. You'll then be able to stream season 3 episodes the next day on Hallmark+.

ORIGINAL, Dec. 29, 3:32 PM: First, some great news for The Way Home fans.

After two seasons of the smash hit Hallmark series, the network has decided to bring back all fan-favorite cast members — Andie MacDowell (as Del), Chyler Leigh (as Kat), Evan Williams (as Elliot) and Sadie Laflamme-Snow (as Alice) — for a third season, premiering Thursday, January 2, 2025. The not-so-great news? The Way Home season 3 is moving from the Hallmark Channel over to the newly launched streaming service Hallmark+, which is making some fans understandably upset.

Despite The Way Home season 3 getting the green light in March, it wasn't until recently that fans discovered the show's move to Hallmark +. On November 25, Hallmark Media penned a detailed announcement about season 3 being "available exclusively" on Hallmark+ but eventually premiering in the fall of 2025 on the Hallmark Channel. This prompted a number of fans to express their newfound disappointment in the comments section of Hallmark's initial Instagram post announcing season 3.

"Sucks that it is only on the streaming service and not on the Hallmark channel on tv," one fan lamented. "Moving it to Hallmark+ only? Not cool," another said. "Unbelievable that it will be on Hallmark+ in January 2025 and on regular Hallmark Fall 2025 😡," a different fan wrote.

While the move to Hallmark + is tough on folks who are not subscribed to the streaming service — which launched this fall — the bright side is that the third season of The Way Home will eventually make its way to the Hallmark Channel (and we'll, of course, keep fans updated on that once we know more!).

In the meantime, fans can sign up for a free Hallmark+ trial to see if they might want to become a subscriber after all. The service is basically a haven for Hallmark fans, offering unlimited access to Hallmark series and movies, exclusive discounts to Hallmark stores, free gifts and more! Plus, the first two seasons of The Way Home are on there to rewatch episodes before season 3 premieres. New subscribers can select from either a yearly plan for $79.99 or pay $7.99 per month.

No matter what fans decide to do — wait until the fall or go ahead and sign up for Hallmark+ to catch season 3 in January — what's coming up next is bound to be epic. Per Hallmark, Ghostwriter star Julia Tomasone (Ghostwriter) and Jordan Doww from Ganymede are joining the cast as the teen versions of Del and Colton (Jefferson Brown). Devin Cecchetto, known for The Parker Andersons and Amelia Parker, is also joining the cast as Teen Evelyn.

As teased by Hallmark, "Viewers will be introduced to a groovy new era when the pond transports Kat and Alice to 1974 – the year Del and Colton first met as teens and their epic love story began."
