How to Watch Oprah Winfrey’s Live WeightWatchers Event ‘Making the Shift: A New Way to Think About Weight’
Oprah Winfrey is hosting a YouTube livestream on Thursday in collaboration with WeightWatchers. “Making The Shift: A New Way to Think About Weight” seeks to dismantle diet culture and inform viewers about the science of weight.
Winfrey exited from the board of WeightWatchers in February, where she served for nearly a decade, after admitting to using weight loss drugs, though she hasn’t specified which ones she took.

Winfrey’s latest event follows her March ABC special “Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution,” which featured commentary from Cleveland Clinic’s Dr. W. Scott Butsch, ABC News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Dr. Amanda Velazquez, as well as pharmaceutical executives from Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, the companies that produce Ozempic and Zepbound, respectively.
What will “Making The Shift” cover?
“Making The Shift” plans to tackle the collective shame around diet culture and weight bias, as well as how the idea of weight loss and health can be reframed in a more positive light. Medical experts, meanwhile, will unpack the science of how weight works.
What has Oprah said about the new special?
“As we reconcile the shame stories we have all experienced, I’m on a mission to keep this conversation going and help us better understand the complexity of weight health and how we can use the science and what we know now to enhance our lives,” said Winfrey in a press release.
“Anyone can quit a diet, but it takes a collective effort to quit a culture,” added Sima Sistani, CEO of WeightWatchers. “With the support of Oprah and our core founding principles of community and science, our intention is to invite people to a conversation to better understand the harsh realities that have led to our complicated relationship with weight. Like Oprah, we are dedicated to shifting culture, to change the conversation from weight loss to weight health.”
Who are the special guests?
“Making The Shift” will feature appearances from actresses Rebel Wilson, Busy Philipps and Amber Riley, as well as writers Katie Sturino, Marisa Meltzer and Tressie McMillan Cottom.
