Watch Mark Hamill reprise “Corvette Summer” role for Green Day music video

"This sequel was a... l-o-n-g ... time coming," the actor wrote.

Forget Brat summer — Mark Hamill and Green Day are bringing back Corvette Summer.

The actor stars in the Bay Area rock band’s “Corvette Summer” music video, which is heavily inspired by Hamill’s 1978 film of the same name. The adventure comedy followed Kenny Dantley (Hamill), a high school senior who embarks on a high-octane journey to get back his beloved Corvette Stingray after it's stolen.

The high-octane visual opens with Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool showing off the sick music video that they filmed over the summer to their classmates and teacher, played by Hannibal Buress. Their clip recreates several key moments from the film as Dirnt’s papier-mâché Corvette is stolen by Armstrong and Tré, leading the bassist to tap Hamill for help in getting it back.

“Rev up those engines, the Corvette Summer music video is here and it’s one wild ride!!” The band wrote on instagram. “The song was named after one of our favorite cult classic movies, so it only made sense to pay homage to it with the music video. We even took things one step further and got @MarkHamill (who starred in the original) to star in our remake alongside us, @hannibalburess, and some others.”

They continued, “We blew the entire budget on them so we had to get creative with cardboard boxes, some duct tape and matchbox cars we found in Tre’s basement. Directed by the dynamic duo @ryanbaxley & @breadandwalter. Buckle up, and enjoy the ride!”

Hamill celebrated the appearance in his own Instagram post. “This sequel was a... l-o-n-g ... time coming,” he wrote. “Nice of you to ask me along for the ride, @greenday!”

The film also recently received some love on Instagram from Annie Potts, who starred as Hamill’s love interest Vanessa in the great car caper. She shared a throwback photo taken in 1978 of her and Hamill sitting on the coveted Stingray with the caption, “What's Summer without a Corvette?”

In the post’s comment section, Hamill wrote, “Love you Annie, even though I still think you’re much too young to play Meemaw.” (Potts starred as Connie “Meemaw” Tucker on Young Sheldon from 2017 until 2024.)
