The Viral Trick for Making Potato Chips 10x Better

Going gluten-free has made me rethink my snack game, and potato chips have become my ride-or-die. They’re crispy, salty and come in an endless variety of flavors—basically, the perfect naturally gluten-free snack. From classic sea salt to wild flavors like dill pickle, jalapeño and even loaded baked potato, there’s a chip for every mood.

I’ve gone down a rabbit hole trying every brand and flavor I can find, but sometimes the best flavors come from a little creativity at home. Serving chips with dips is always great, but this idea from content creator Nicolle (@convinoboard) looks like a delicious combo that I can't pass up!

How to Make Charcuterie Chips

Nicolle made a platter of charcuterie chips and I am obsessed!

The super fun snack combines the elements of a charcuterie board (cheeses, cured meats, fig ham) and the deliciousness of nachos. This dish is perfect for entertaining or for a quick dinner or snack—and would be a great addition to your Super Bowl snack spread.

To make them, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and pour a bag of kettle-style potato chips on top, spreading them into an even layer. You want to use heartier, kettle-style chips to make sure they can stand up to the toppings.

Speaking of toppings, Nicolle tops the chips with grated Parmesan cheese and then grates part of a stick of salami and sprinkles that on top. The chips go into the oven for a few minutes (Nicolle says 5 to 8 minutes) so the cheese can melt. When they emerge from the oven, top them with dollops of fig jam and some fresh thyme leaves.

Commenters were excited to try this idea and had tons of thoughts about what toppings they'd use on their charcuterie chips.

Some commenters also saw the similarity to "chippy boys," a specific potato chip nacho concept from TikTok creator @kaelah, who is known for topping chips with gorgonzola cheese, baking them and then drizzling them with balsamic glaze. In one video, she mentions that she got the idea from a dish she ate at a restaurant in Middletown, Ohio. As is often the case, these viral recipe ideas can come from all sorts of sources and find their own life (and so many variations) online.

How to Make This Recipe Your Own

Instead of traditional nacho toppings like ground beef and melted cheddar, charcuterie nachos feature gourmet cured meats (like prosciutto, salami, or chorizo), artisan cheeses and fancy extras, like fig jam or honey, olives, nuts and fresh herbs, which means they're endlessly customizable. They can be changed to meet any dietary needs or food preferences.

I would love to try some jalapeño kettle chips topped with pepper Jack cheese and finished with a hot honey glaze and some diced apples.

You could also make some charcuterie nachos with salt and vinegar chips, rotisserie chicken, sliced pears and a balsamic glaze.

Charcuterie chips are a fun, upscale twist on nachos—perfect for entertaining or when you just feel extra fancy for dinner and I think they will make a great option for me when I need fast, delicious (gluten-free) dinner.
