‘The View’s Sunny Hostin Announces Devastating Family Loss
Sunny Hostin is grieving a difficult loss this Wednesday, opening up about it during today's episode of The View.
Immediately following a segment focused on American Heart Month, presented by original View panelist and American Heart Association national volunteer Star Jones (who was filling in for Joy Behar), Hostin, 56, became emotional.
After the lawyer and TV personality wrapped up her part in spreading awareness about heart health and educating viewers about the roles blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels play, she opened the floor to questions from her colleagues.
Sara Haines and Whoopi Goldberg were among the first to comment, but when it came time for Hostin to participate in the discussion, she found herself having a hard time gathering her thoughts as the topic hit a little too close to home.
"I’m sorry," a teary-eyed Hostin said during the Feb. 5 episode of the ABC morning talk show, revealing, "My aunt died yesterday of a heart attack."

"So," Hostin continued, turning to Alyssa Farah Griffin, "Can you take my question?"
While the table came together to support their co-star, rubbing her back and sharing their condolences, producers seemingly also tried to help Hostin finish out the show on a strong note.
"Hard pivot here," Griffin said while consoling her colleague, ultimately changing the subject to be about Jones' new season of Divorce Court and how she really feels about her role on the courtroom reality series. Joking that "it may be the silliest transition I've ever made on television," Jones still seems to enjoy what she does.
"My job is to be empathetic," Jones explained. "To let them [the people featured on the show] know that they're not alone in their relationship drama or trauma and that somebody is there for you to help you get through it."
Season 26 of Divorce Court is currently airing and available to stream on Hulu, YouTube, Roku and Tubi.
