Vanessa Lachey recently had to have an important conversation with her daughter.

The Love Is Blind co-host, 44, who appeared on the Tuesday, Feb. 25 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show alongside her husband Nick Lachey, 51, shared the reason she decided to have "the birds and the bees" talk with her daughter Brooklyn, 10. Vanessa shared that a cold swept through her household causing the entire family, which also includes the couple's two sons, Phoenix, 8, and Camden, 12, to become sick.

During their sickness, Vanessa and her daughter were in bed together watching a slew of romantic comedies. The NCIS: Hawaii star told host Kelly Clarkson, 42, that the Jennifer Lopez-led rom-com The Backup Plan promoted the conversation on where babies come from.

"So, I push play and I'm thinking I'm going to ease into it. First scene, she's in the chair legs up in stirrups [and] he comes in with a Q-tip. He's about to artificially inseminate her," she recalled. "I pause it and I go, 'Ok, so there's a couple of ways that you can get pregnant. This is one.'"

"And she goes, 'I'm going to look in the pillow when you tell me the other one.' And I go, 'No, no, no, look at me, and I'll look at the TV,'" she continued. "Then, I went into it and we had this whole talk explaining the science of it and [Nick] wasn't in the room."

After their talk, the duo continued to watch the entire movie, which only led to her daughter having more confusion.

"She's like, 'I'm so confused, so you can opt for the Q-tip and not the guy?' And, I was like 'Absolutely' " she said. "I said, 'Yes girl, whatever mama wants.'"

While the Lacheys' three children are growing up in the digital age and have two parents in the spotlight, Vanessa shared in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in March 2024, that her children won't be on social media anytime soon.

"I actually signed a pact when I was on the mainland with the school that we wouldn't let our kids have phones until they were in sixth grade," Vanessa told PEOPLE. The family of five previously lived in Hawaii, where the actress filmed NCIS. "I've since left that school, but I still believe in that."

Vanessa also opened up about parenting her kids in an interview with PEOPLE in March 2024. She shared the one rule that her and her musician husband never forget.

"The one thing that we've always agreed on is that we will always, always let our children know how much we love them," Vanessa told PEOPLE. "It sounds so simple, but I didn't have that constant affirmation, physically and verbally, when I was younger."

"I mean, of course you know you're loved, but do you really? And sometimes, you like to hear it and you like to feel it. And so, I don't think that we've ever talked about, 'This is what we have to do,' but between the two of us, we know our kids need to always know they're loved, especially after a disciplinary moment."
