The Fashion Gallery at the V&A is set to close for a huge refurbishment before reopening as The Burberry Gallery in 2027. According to an announcement from the museum today, the British fashion house has signed a multi-year partnership with the iconic London institution to revamp one of its most popular galleries into a spectacular new space that will enable visitors to experience the V&A’s fashion collections in innovative and exciting ways.
"Founded in the same decade, for over 150 years the V&A and Burberry have been pillars of British fashion," said Tristram Hunt, director of the V&A. "Global in our reach, whilst champions of UK art and design, we share a commitment to ensuring our proud heritage inspires the next generation of creatives."
"This partnership allows us to share the V&A’s incredible collections in new and accessible ways and, with Burberry, support education and craftsmanship across the country. The V&A is hugely honoured to display the Burberry name above one of the very greatest fashion galleries in the world."
The Fashion Gallery has played host to some groundbreaking exhibitions during its time, and remains one of the museum’s most visited and largest dedicated permanent gallery spaces. However, it was last last structurally redeveloped all the way back in 1962, so is in need of an update – and one that Burberry is thrilled to be involved with.

Exact refurbishment plans are under wraps, but the museum has confirmed that The Fashion Gallery will shut on 4 May, and will reopen sometime in spring 2027. Until then, there will still be plenty of fashion to enjoy at the V&A including the upcoming Cartier exhibition, which opens at the Sainsbury Gallery in April.
