Uma Thurman Says She Was Nervous to Work With 'Legendary' Director Until She Found Out He's a Swiftie
Actress Uma Thurman recently revealed that despite her long career working with major filmmakers, she was "nervous" to act under Paul Schrader's direction. But luckily, one small detail about the director convinced her he was fine: He is a Taylor Swift fan.
During the New York Film Festival premiere of the movie Oh Canada, which Schrader directed and Thurman stars in, the actress described her feelings before meeting the director.
"I was very nervous to meet him, you know, this macho filmmaker [who] made these legendary films," she said during a Q&A session, via People. Schrader is the director of movies like American Gigolo and First Reformed, while he also wrote Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and more.

Luckily, someone researched a bit about Schrader before Thurman's meeting with him, with the star recounting, "As I was on my way to the meeting, a person driving me was Googling and she's like, 'Oh my God, he's a huge Taylor Swift fan.' I was like, 'What?'"
"And then I read Paul's quote or tweet about defending Taylor and I was like, 'Oh, I’m fine,'" she concluded.
In 2018, Schrader attended his first Swift concert and shared huge praise for the singer afterward. He wrote on Facebook, "It's her phenomenon, her ability to craft and legislate a public image, her innate showwomanship, her ability to ride the wave of the naughty good girl and get away with it, her attention to detail, her ability to micromanage the industry that is Taylor Swift--of that I am in awe."
Schrader has openly talked about and praised Swift other times as well.
In the end, Thurman appeared to have a great time working with Schrader, describing the experience as she said, "I think the cast and crew were all there for Paul and learned so much, just watching him as a master. So centered and I would say a big softie."
Thurman and Schrader's film Oh Canada is set to come out on Dec. 6.
