Tyla Embraces Sculptural Inspiration in Sand-like Balmain Dress for Met Gala 2024 Red Carpet
Singer Tyla made a statement for Met Gala on Monday in New York City.
The Grammy-winning singer fashioned a sculptural, sand-like gown that took inspiration from the “Time” element of the evening’s theme. The singer wore a dress designed by Balmain, featuring fabric that had a sand-like look sculpted over Tyla’s body.

The strapless gown hugged Tyla’s frame before fanning out into a mermaid train. As for her accessories, Tyla wore a few pieces of delicate jewelry, including a collar necklace by Alexis Bittar. Sand was also painted onto Tyla’s body — her shoulder and along her arm. She wore a few statement rings and carried an hourglass clutch by Balmain, as well. Her look was curated by stylist Katie Qian.
With the evening’s theme “The Garden of Time,” Tyla and Qian latched onto the idea of “time,” with the singer’s look, evocative of “The Sands of Time.” This year’s Grammy Award winner for Best African Music Performance has been building a presence in the fashion world as of late.
The singer starred in the campaign for Alo Yoga and Beats by Dr. Dre Beats x Alo Special Edition Fit Pro true wireless earphones last April. In February 2024, she starred in Gap’s spring campaign.
