I Tried the Days of Our Lives Apple Cake and It's the Easiest and Most Delicious Fall Dessert
Linda Skeens is truly the grandmother you never had. The blue ribbon-winning 75-year-old took over the internet last year when she won 25 ribbons for her crafting, cooking and baking at the Virginia-Kentucky District Fair. Ever since then, she's amassed a following on social media, made appearances on the Today show and even published her first cookbook, Blue Ribbon Kitchen: Recipes and Tips from America’s Favorite County Fair Champion.
One of her viral videos that has been taking the internet by storm as of late is the Days of Our Lives cake. As rumor has it, this cozy cake was a favorite on the set of the sultry soap. And thanks to Linda, we can now make it ourselves at home. So, I grabbed the ingredients needed and turned my oven on to try my hand as this cool-weather treat.

Ingredients for the Days of Our Lives Cake
As Linda tells the story on her Instagram page, she received a birthday card from a friend and in it was this recipe for an apple cake from the show Days of our Lives. Not only is this the perfect fall-weather treat, but it would be a crowd-pleaser for either a Rosh Hashanah celebration or a Thanksgiving table.
Thankfully, the ingredients list for this cake is short, simple and sweet. All you'll need is a box of spice cake mix, eggs, oil, apple juice, powdered sugar and a can of apple pie filling.

How to Make the Days of Our Lives Cake
Making this cake couldn't be any easier. Simply take one box of spice cake mix (I used Betty Crocker) and add in the eggs, apple juice, oil (Linda uses canola but I used sunflower oil since I like the taste better) and mix.
Next, fold in one can of apple pie filling, chopped up a bit, and spread out into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan before baking for 25 minutes at 350°F. Linda says to add a glaze over the hot cake, to which she makes with powdered sugar mixed with a little apple juice (I used about 2 tablespoons).

What I Thought of the Days of Our Lives Cake
This cake is one step up from a simple box cake mix but tastes like you were in the kitchen all day baking. It's a one-bowl cake that takes less than five minutes to throw together.
The warm fall spices wafted through my house in the most delicious way as this was baking in the oven (for exactly 25 minutes). When it came out of the oven, it was evident this was going to be one warm, spicy and cozy cake. One note here: I usually like my cakes round, but when I was little, my mom made the most delicious chocolate snacking cake in a square cake pan for an after-school treat. This cake reminded me of that and pulled me back toward my childhood in the most delicious way.

One bite and I was in love. It's as if an apple pie and a spice cake had a baby. The chopped cinnamon apples sunk to the bottom of the cake and formed a sugary fruity base for the moist cake. There was no mistaking that this was a spice cake as it was very forward on the deep flavors of clove, allspice and cinnamon, so you've gotta be a fan to truly enjoy this one. And if you’re not eating this with a Trader Joe’s Honeycrisp apple candle burning while putting up Halloween decorations, then what are you even doing? This is one cozy cake with serious fall vibes that you should try your hand at making, pronto. TL:DR: Linda Skeens has done it again.
