Trevor Donovan Joins ‘When Hope Calls’ at Great American Family

The “When Calls the Heart” family is growing. Trevor Donovan has joined the spinoff, “When Hope Calls,” at Great American Family.

Donovan will star as Constable Jim Reynolds, an experienced Mountie based in Clearwater. Per Great American Media, Reynolds is “a strapping man, proficient in horse riding and physical pursuits” and “is known for his strong presence and skills in the field.”

He will first appear in the third episode of Season 2, when Michael and Nora arrive to pick up a child under he’s caring for. He will then return for a second episode later in Season 2. Season 2 kicked off with two Christmas episodes in Dec. 2021; the third episode is set to kick back off the season in early 2025. New episodes will debut on Great American Family then stream on Pure Flix. In Canada, “When Hope Calls” will air on Super Channel.

The role may be ongoing for Donovan as Great American Media is planning to expand the “When Calls the Heart” universe, based on Janette Oke’s book series.

Season 2 also stars Cindy Busby as Nora, Christopher Russel as Constable, Mountie Michael, Nick Bateman as Wyatt, Wendy Crewson as Tess Stewart, Hanneke Talbot as Maggie Parsons, Morgan Kohan as Lillian Walsh and Ryan-James Hatanaka as Mountie Gabriel.

“When Hope Calls” is a family drama focused on the town’s orphanage and its residents who overcome obstacles while trying to create a “hopeful, faith-filled community on the cusp of change in the frontier town while nurturing the children in their care.” The season will be eight episodes, with the first paying homage to Lillian and Mountie Gabriel’s romance as the new characters are introduced.

“When Hope Calls” is executive produced by Brad Krevoy, Don McDonald, Alfonso Moreno, David Anselmo, All Canadian Entertainment and Hideaway Pictures. David Anselmo directs; showrunner Alfonso Moreno penned the script.
