Treat Williams receives posthumous Emmy nomination for final role in “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”

Williams earned one of the program's 10 Emmy nominations following his death, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, and Tom Hollander also scoring nods.

The Emmys have honored late actor Treat Williams with a nomination for his final screen performance in FX's Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

Following 71-year-old Williams' June 2023 death after he was involved in a motorcycle accident, the former Everwood actor received his second career Emmy nod Wednesday morning for his work in the anthology series' second season.

Williams earned the honor in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category, and was nominated alongside Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers), Robert Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country), Lamorne Lewis (Fargo), and Lewis Pullman (Lessons in Chemistry).

On the series, Williams played real-life figure Bill Paley, a media mogul who was married to Babe Paley (Naomi Watts), one of the titular "Swans" who engaged in a bitter feud with writer Truman Capote (Tom Hollander).

Watts, Hollander, and actress Diane Lane also received Emmy nominations on Wednesday, among Feud's 10 total nods across multiple categories, with director Gus Van Sant scoring recognition for his work on the project, too.

Williams' onscreen wife paid tribute to him on Instagram following his death, with Watts sharing a photo of her costar while telling her followers that she was "heartbroken by the news" of his death.

"His work is extraordinary. Not only did I get to discover what a remarkable professional he was, but I made a friend, and saw what a devoted husband and father he was. Treat was one of a kind, truly enchanted with life," Watts wrote. "Treat, I didn’t know you nearly long enough, but it was enough for me to realize that the world has lost someone special. Thank you for being the best scene partner. I absolutely cherished our time playing together. We made so many great friends with everyone on Feud. We danced, laughed, and cried, and I will always hold dear the story of our Bill and Babe."

Final Emmys voting closes on Aug. 26. The 2024 Emmys ceremony airs live on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
