Travelling couple's 'beautiful' free beachfront campsite discovery: 'Hard to leave'
This free campsite in Queensland is the perfect spot for 4WD enthusiasts to go fishing and relax.
Finding a free campsite that's not too crowded and has gorgeous views is a dream come true for those travelling around Australia. A beautiful beach in Queensland has become a favourite among campers, with one travelling couple telling Yahoo Lifestyle why it's one of their favourite places in the country.
Sam Sterckx and Wim Barzeele, Europeans travelling Australia, tell us it was "hard to leave" the beautiful spot. Notch Point, which is located on the Central Queensland Coast, is famous as one of the best fishing spots in the area. However, it is only accessible by a high-clearance four-wheel drive.
Notch Point: 'Most beautiful free camp in Queensland'
Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle about the gorgeous spot, Wim and Sam share, "It's such an incredible location and it feels unreal that it's a free camp. For us it's the most beautiful free camp in Queensland. The journey there, passing all the cows and the narrow road, is part of the journey."

The couple found the location thanks to WikiCamps, saying they "had to check it out when we were on our way north".
They add that they didn't get to stay very long, telling us, "It's hard to leave this spot, but we had to continue our journey north so we only stayed for one night. But you can easily spend a few days or a week there.
"The most popular activity there would be fishing, it's a famous spot for fishing and crabbing. But it's also the ideal location to relax, cosy up by a campfire and enjoy what camping is all about."
The area wasn't very busy while they were there in July, with the pair saying, "There were a few campers around, but everyone had a lot of space and it didn't feel busy at all."
"The views are the best part of this campground," they share. "Surrounded by water, palm trees, and grazing cattle. For us Europeans, it can't get much better."
Caution for campers travelling to Notch Point
However, the couple did share a warning for others keen to check out Notch Point, telling us, "The road there is 4WD only. When we were there it was dry and had no issues. In wet season, the track can get tricky with mud holes, so be cautious."

They add, "Notch Point is 30 minutes away from the highway, it's not a quick stopover to sleep, but it's well worth the hour detour. When we would go again, we'd stay at least for a few nights, just to truly enjoy camping in one of the most epic places in Queensland."
