‘The Traitors’ Team Combining On Mystery Format Set In Country Estate For Channel 4

The team behind The Traitors UK has come up with another mystery format located in a grand setting, this time for Channel 4.

Studio Lambert is making The Inheritance for the network. With more than a shade or two of The Traitors, The Inheritance sees 12 strangers arrive at a grand English country estate, lured by the opportunity to inherit a chunk of a fortune. The fortune belonged to a glamorous benefactor known only as The Deceased who has left video messages for the players from beyond the grave. To release money from The Inheritance, players must work as a team to complete a series of challenges. To win the game they must persuade all others that only they should be entrusted with the money.

Speaking at a Channel 4 showcase in London today, entertainment boss Steven Handley teased that The Deceased will be played by a “British icon.”

The Inheritance is Studio Lambert’s second attempt at adventure reality for Channel 4 in two years. The network will be hoping it is received better than the first, Rise & Fall, which was axed after one series following mediocre ratings and reports of high production costs. Studio Lambert makes the BBC and Peacock versions of All3Media property The Traitors, both of which have been huge hits on either side of the pond.

Steve Handley, Channel 4’s Head of Reality & Entertainment, said: “The Inheritance isn’t just a battle of strategy, alliances, and inevitable betrayals – it’s a cocktail of drama, jeopardy, and outright mischief that Reality fans love. I can’t wait to see how our players handle the challenges, the twists, and a few sneaky surprises.”

Tim Harcourt, Studio Lambert’s Chief Creative Officer, said: “We often work together in life and yet some team-members seem to get so much more than others. This incredible game – part Knives Out, part Succession – can finally show us why this happens… and what better way to explore the notions of fairness and entitlement than through the delicious prism of a fight over a will.”

Channel 4 unveiled The Inheritance at its London Showcase event alongside a reality adventure series titled The Hunt from MAFS producer CPL Productions, a dog-eat-dog show in which half the players in a forest are predators and half are prey – but they keep swapping.
