Today show's ratings continue to suffer following Karl Stefanovic's exit

It’s been just short of a month since the new-look Today show kicked off, however the breakfast show seems to be struggling in terms of ratings.

On Wednesday, just 177,000 people from the five state capital cities across Australia tuned in to the Channel Nine program fronted by Georgie Gardner and Karl Stefanovic’s replacement, Deborah Knight.

Meanwhile 300,000 people watched rival Channel Seven show, Sunrise, instead.

This is certainly not what Channel Nine was hoping for, after last month it hit its “lowest ratings in 10 years”, according to The Daily Telegraph.

At the end of last year, long-time presenter Karl Stefanovic – along with brother Peter Stefanovic and his wife Sylvia Jeffreys – was culled from Today in order for the show to take a “new focus” in 2019.

Richard Wilkins, veteran entertainment reporter for the show, has also taken a step back from his role on Today as a part of the shakeup – instead he has joined Sonia Kruger on Today Extra on Thursdays and Fridays.

During the premiere with the post-Stefanovic Today panel last month, many viewers weren’t impressed with the new line-up.

“I’m not watching now Karl’s gone,” one fan wrote on Instagram. “He brightened up my mornings”.

“Tried to watch, cant do it. I’ll watch 7 instead now. Good luck guys (sic),” another said.

However it wasn’t all criticism, with many viewers stoked with Georgie and Deborah fronting the show.

“Ignore the haters. Love waking up each morning to you Georgie,” said one fan.

“Good going. Love the line up so far this year.”
