Today's Ally Langdon's 'woke' Harry and Meghan comment leaves co-stars speechless

The Today Show's Allison Langdon left newsreader Alex Cullen speechless after jokingly referring to him as "woke" during a segment about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Alex was reporting on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's visit to New York City, which was their first public appearance following the birth of daughter Lilibet.

During the report he referred to the couple as being "woke", something Ally thought was rich given Alex is just as politically progressive as the pair.

Harry and Meghan are in New York for a live concert hosted by Global Citizen, an organisation dedicated to ending poverty.

"He knows how to pull a crowd... A very woke crowd," Karl Stefanovic said of Aussie Hugh Evans who runs Global Citizen.

"He sure does!" Alex agreed, adding, "I reckon. You can't get more woke than those two can you?"

"No, you can't!" Karl laughed.

"Oh come on," Ally interjected. "Listen to you when you're calling out wokeness!"

Clearly implying Alex was just as woke as the couple, Karl jumped in joking, "Ally, that was very personal. We can [have a] go at Harry and Megs, but not people you work with every day.

"Are you okay? I don't know if we are... Sorry, my friend!" Ally laughed.

"I will be [okay]," Alex said seriously.

Weather reporter Tim Davies then tried to cut the 'tension', by saying, "Well, I woke up this morning. That's about as woke as I'm going to get."

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan made an appearance at the One World Trade Center Observatory in New York, posing briefly for photos on the glass-enclosed viewing deck.

The pair also visited the September 11 museum and paused to look at the names of those killed in the terror attack 20 years ago.

"It's wonderful to be back, thank you," Meghan told a reporter who asked if she was enjoying being in New York again.

The Global Citizen Live event takes place in Central Park this weekend, and features Beyoncé, JLo, Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, Kylie Minogue and John Legend amongst others.

The royal pair will use their time onstage to call on G7 countries to immediately share at least 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses with those most in need.
