Today's Karl Stefanovic jokes about 'coming to work drunk' after Melbourne Cup

With the 'race that stops the nation' here for another year, Melbourne Cup parties are likely in full swing across the country and Today show host Karl Stefanovic revealed he wasn't planning on missing out.

Both he and co-host Allison Langdon revealed their plans to enjoy the Cup on Tuesday, with Karl telling viewers he planned to have a "proper lash".

"Enjoy your Melbourne Cup days, folks, and as we always say on this show, drink responsibility and don't come to work the next day drunk," he said, pointing to that time he showed up to work still drunk the morning after the 2009 Logie Awards.

"Are you really going to follow your advice?" Ally asked.

"No, I'm going to have a proper lash today," he joked, with Ally replying: "I guess I'm going to have to do all the work tomorrow."

Later on in the day Ally did however reveal she also planned to "cut loose", telling The Kyle and Jackie O Show "Karl can do all the work tomorrow".

Stars have put their best fashion foot forward already today, with plenty of familiar faces frocking up for the big event.

You couldn't miss Delta Goodrem on the day, with the star wearing a bright yellow and pink jumpsuit which featured a large pink bow. She then changed into a bright Orange look for her performance.
