Timothée Chalamet recruits posse of lookalikes to help with “SNL ”hosting duties in new sketch: 'It's a lot of work'
The promo is a nod to October's Chalamet lookalike contest in New York City, which the actor himself crashed.
Timothée Chalamet gets by with a little help from his... clones.
The Dune: Part Two and A Complete Unknown star is on double duty this weekend as both the host and musical guest of the upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live. That's why he's taking advantage of the gaggle of lookalikes he recently befriended after crashing an October Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest in New York City.
"I've never done this before, you know, I'm having to be SNL host and musical guest in the same week," Chalamet says in a promotional sketch released today on the comedy program's YouTube channel. "It's a lot of work, and I want to focus on the songs. So I brought in some help to cover with all the hosting duties," he says. The camera then zooms out to reveal Chalamet flanked by four young men who bear varying degrees of resemblance to the actor, dressed like his Wonka character, Bob Dylan, and in classic Timmy street style.
"Stuff like meeting with the writers, or working on my monologue, and of course you gotta listen to Mikey Day brag about hosting Is It Cake," Chalamet says over a montage of the lookalikes conversing with SNL writer Jimmy Fowlie, prancing onto the Studio 8H stage in full Wonka garb, and enduring Day's loquacious advances.
Chalamet then looks at his phone and exclaims, "Oh, I'm supposed to be on Fallon right now," and cuts a sly glance to the lookalike standing to his left. The sketch then cuts to Jimmy Fallon welcoming "Timothée Chalamet" onto his show, his face dropping when he sees who really showed up. "He's good, he's really good," Chalamet remarks, watching his own double on a TV in the SNL halls.
This promo sketch is riffing on the widely-publicized lookalike contest that was held in Washington Square Park last fall. Over 2,600 people RSVP'd and dozens of dupes for the French-American actor showed up, mugging for the cameras and competing for a $50 cash prize.
The title eventually went to Miles Mitchell, though it's unclear if any of the lookalikes featured on the SNL promo were tapped from the original lookalike contest. Reps for Chalamet and Saturday Night Live did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for confirmation.

This isn't Chalamet's first time hosting the long-running sketch comedy program. His premiere hosting gig came in December 2020, and he followed that up with another round as host in November 2023. This is however his first time fulfilling the duties of both host and musical guest, an honor previously bestowed upon the likes of Ray Charles, Charli XCX, Mick Jagger, Dolly Parton, and Paul Simon, who was both the first and most frequent to do it.

Chalamet is currently on the road promoting A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic he stars in alongside Monica Barbaro, who plays Joan Baez, and Edward Norton, who plays Pete Seeger. Chalamet has been nominated for awards for his performance as the immortal bard at the Golden Globes and several regional critics' awards ceremonies; his fans and lookalikes can tune in tomorrow to discover whether he's been nominated for the Oscar, too.
