Tim McGraw's 'Field of Dreams' Concert Has a Special Meaning
Tim McGraw will be performing a concert at the Field of Dreams movie site later this year, and there's a very special meaning behind the date on which it will take place.
The country crooner is headlining an all-day concert at the iconic movie site in Dyersville, Iowa on Aug. 30, which happens to be the same day as his late father's birthday. Tim, 57, is the son of late MLB pitcher Tug McGraw, who died in 2004.
"The fact that Tim McGraw is going to bring a world-class event to our corner of Iowa on what would be his late father's birthday speaks to the inspiration and meaning of this place and the magic of what is possible here," Nate Runde, chair of the Dyersville Events board of directors, said in a statement made to Iowa Public Radio News.
While announcing the news of the concert with his fans, the "Live Like You Were Dying" singer took to Instagram to say, "I know my dad would have loved to see this one."
"Let's make history together," he added.
The upcoming show is described as a "once in a lifetime event," and will feature performances from not only the country music mega star, but also some opening acts as well, who will be announced in the coming weeks.
"When people come here, they want to share a catch, swing the bat, run the bases and even snap a picture on our porch," Dyersville Mayor Jeff Jacque said about the highly-anticipated event. "And now is the first opportunity for these folks to come here and experience a country concert."
In another Instagram post shared on Friday, Jan. 24, McGraw announced that tickets are now on sale.
Fans can now "step up to the plate and grab tickets" on StubHub.
