Tim McGraw Forced to Exit Netflix Bull-Riding Series Due to Injury

Sending well wishes Tim McGraw’s way!

The 57-year-old country singer is stepping back from his highly-anticipated starring role in Netflix’s unnamed bull-riding series to prioritize the intensive recovery necessary for an upcoming back surgery. Fresh off the tail end of orthopedic surgery on both knees in August 2024, Tim had to make the tough but obvious decision to champion his health over his acting and production career, a close source revealed to Deadline.

The show will go on, though! While Tim is stepping back from the lead role in the series, his part will be recast.

“The series follows a megastar champion… He faces a life-or-death crossroads when confronted by the arrival of a fearless young rider whose very existence challenges his ways and unearths secrets that force him to reckon with his past,” the show’s May 2024 release reads.

While it’s unclear who will replace Tim, we can think of a few actors who could be cut out for the job. Josh Lucas, perhaps? He has a similar Southern appeal and knows how to ride a horse, as was documented in his role as a young John Dutton on Yellowstone.

One thing’s for certain: With Yellowstone coming to a close and no news on the Beth and Rip sequel, we could use a new cowboy drama for our viewing pleasure. Fingers crossed they cast a new lead in Tim’s show ASAP. In the meantime, we’ll be rewatching all the best country series, from Friday Night Lights and 1923 to Longmire and Landman.
