TikTok potato peeling video leaves people gobsmacked: 'Never knew it'
A viral TikTok video has left people wondering if they've been using this common kitchen utensil wrong their whole lives.
If you’re a fan of potatoes - and let’s be honest, hot chips are one of the best foods out there - then this video may just make your day.
A TikTok video has gone viral after the woman, known as @jennias3, revealed how she peels her potatoes, with many people left gobsmacked over it.
It might seem simple, but instead of simply swiping the peeler one way on the potato, she actually swivels it back and forth, cutting the peeling time in half.
“Fun kitchen facts!" she says in the video.
"Did you know the reason why potato peelers swivel back and forth is so that you can not only go down but forward when you're peeling so that you can peel the entire thing super fast? Without having to actually lift up the peeler off of the vegetable."

People commented in their droves on the video, with one person saying: “Wow, well I didn’t know that’.
Another person wrote: “I’m 48 and didn’t know this. Just thinking of the amount of time I could have saved on my life.”
One person wrote about the swivel function: “Omg I thought mine was broken.”
However, others were dubious about putting the peeler into action, saying they’ve tried it themselves before and cut their hands.
“Last time I went back and forth I cut my hand,” one person wrote.
“Fun kitchen facts. U will never catch me pulling one of those sharp peelers toward my own hand/wrist,” another said.
The woman responded in a follow-up video, saying: "It's literally impossible to cut yourself by doing it my way because you're never really lifting the blade off of the potato so you're not actually putting the blade in a position to cut you.
"But if you do it in the old way, you pick the blade up, you put it back down, you pick it up, put it down - it gives you an opportunity to accidentally miss and cut your skin.
"If you are a klutz in the kitchen or just completely terrified, you can use a fork to hold the potato still while you're doing it and so your skin is not in the way at all."
