Thomas Rhett Talks 'Amazing' Wife Lauren Akins and the 'Beautiful Chaos' of Life with Their 4 Kids (Exclusive)
The country star discussed his new song "Somethin' 'Bout a Woman" about Akins and how his new album also honors her while talking to PEOPLE at the iHeart Radio Music Festival on Sept. 20
Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins' love story continues to grow, day by day and song by song.
In August, the country superstar, 34, released his seventh studio album, About a Woman, and his similarly titled song, "Somethin’ ‘Bout a Woman," a playful, upbeat song about his "amazing" wife Akins who he famously met in elementary school, and is still his muse after all these years.
“"Somethin’ ‘Bout a Woman" was written on my tour bus at 2 a.m. with a bunch of buddies. I think the more I live with it, the more, I don't know, the more depthy [sic] it felt,” he explained to PEOPLE on Friday, Sept. 20 before his iHeartRadio Music Festival performance in Las Vegas.
“For me, it's different. I saw my wife for the first time when I was a 6-year-old in first grade, but I can remember being a fifth and sixth grader just seeing her and being like, ‘Gosh, this is the most beautiful human being I've ever seen in my life,’ ” the country superstar added.
“And every year that we're married, I keep looking at her and I'm like, 'How did I get so lucky?' I think this whole record really encompasses me lucking out with the most amazing person in the world," Rhett added.

Of course, when he’s not writing songs about his wife, Rhett and Akins, 34, are building their life, which includes their four daughters: Willa Gray, 8, Ada James, 7, Lennon Love, 4, and Lillie Carolina, 2.
“It's changed my life. It's chaos, but it's beautiful chaos,” he said of fatherhood and being a girl dad.
“There are days where it's like, 'Good Lord, at what time are we going to bed?' But I think as they're getting older, it's been the biggest blessing in my life," Rhett continued.
Despite the "beautiful chaos," the country star is full of admiration for his daughters.
"My girls have taught me so much patience and how to love better. They have softened my heart in so many ways. I love my girls more than anything in the world," he says.
And while his new record About a Woman is something of a love letter to the mother of his girls, Rhett thinks many can relate to the message.
“I think it's going to speak to a lot of people out there like me that feel like they outkicked their coverage in marriage,” he said, using football terminology to describe feeling .
“I think that's one of my favorite projects I've gotten to make," he says, adding that "Somethin' 'Bout a Woman," is a song that "has been a lot of fun to play.”
The couple even stars in the song’s music video together, too.
“Even though she would rather not, it is very nice to have my wife in my videos,” Rhett playfully says.
