Thom Christopher, “One Life to Live” Star, Dies at 84: 'He Was Always a Gentleman'
The actor was best known for playing villain Carlo Hesser on the long-running soap from 1991 until 2008
The One Life to Live family is mourning another of their own.
Thom Christopher, who played villain Carlo Hesser on the long-running soap opera, died on Thursday, Dec. 5. He was 84.
Christopher's death was confirmed by his former costar Anthony Crivello, who shared the news about his "dear friend" in a post on Facebook.
"He was always a gentleman, always supportive, and he and his wife Judith who proceeded him in death, where [sic] always gracious to me and welcoming," Crivello, who played Christopher's son on the soap, wrote. Christopher's wife Judith died in 2019 at age 88.
"Thom and I worked together on the #abc daytime series #onelifetolive in the 1990s. We’re seen here with the lovely #audrylanders who played my sister, and Thom my father. It was a wonderful time, difficult hours and long days, but joyful each minute."
"May Thom fly on Wings of Angels to be beside his beloved Judith, and may they enjoy each other’s company once again, beside the 'Pearly Gates’ of heaven," Crivello, 69, concluded his post.
Christopher starred in 56 episodes of One Life to Live, beginning in 1991. He made his final appearance on the soap in 2008.
Christopher's death marks the latest of several stars from the soap, which premiered in 1968 and ran until 2013.
Last December, Ellen Holly and Kamar de los Reyes both died, the former in her sleep at age 92 and the latter at age 56 after a short battle with cancer.
Holly made history with her role as Carla Benari on One Life to Live as she was the first Black person to secure a long-term contract on a daytime soap in 1968. She played the role until 1980, and later briefly reprised it from 1983 to 1985.
Reyes had made an impact on the soap but had also spread his wings and was working on several other projects at the time of his death. He played villain Antonio Vega on One Life to Live from 1995 to 2009 and was also known for starring in Sleepy Hollow and the CW's All American, which he was filming at the time of his death.
