Both the judges and fans of The Masked Singer were left in shock last night as international superstar Vinnie Jones was unmasked as The Volcano.
The English-Welsh actor and former professional football player belted out The Proclaimers 80’s hit I’m Gonna Be in the sing-off with Vampire, who sang a rendition of Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise.
Judges Dannii Minogue, Dave Hughes, Jackie O and Urzila Carlson were stumped by who was behind the mask, throwing out a number of guesses, including Sacha Baron Cohen, Christian Bale, Billy Bob Thornton and Anthony Mundine.
The shock was evident on their faces when The Volcano’s mask was taken off and Vinnie Jones was smiling at them.
“This is amazing. We never even thought for a second it was you,” Jackie O said, while Dave Hughes said: “I was torn between acting and sport because I didn’t think you were a professional singer.”
Twitter users were equally as flabbergasted by Vinnie’s inclusion on the show.
“And it’s… Vinnie Jones? Wow, never saw that one coming,” one person said.
“Well I definitely wasn’t expecting VINNIE JONES!! That was a great surprise reveal!” another person said.
“OMG!!! Vinnie Jones?? And here we all were bagging out the judges for guessing famous movie stars, but Vinnie Jones is on #MaskedSingerAU. I actually gasped out loud at his reveal!” a viewer wrote.
Fans online had made guesses about The Volcano before he was unmasked, with one person saying it was Hugh Sheridan and another saying Beau Ryan.
