The Block 2024 has already seen a whole lot of drama in the first two nights of episodes, from couples fighting, to Jesse's breakdown and Kylie's black bathroom drama. However, last night's episode saw a more wholesome interruption as Haydn had to ditch filming after his wife went into early labour.

Haydn, who's on the show with his best mate Ricky, found out he had been selected for The Block shortly after learning his partner Chelsea was pregnant. The couple had been trying unsuccessfully to have a baby for 10 years, going through multiple rounds of IVF before stopping and then falling pregnant naturally.

Haydn and Chelsea came to the decision that he'd still participate in The Block, despite the fact filming the show would clash with the birth of his first child, but neither of them expected for baby Matilda to make her entrance into the world so soon into filming.

"It was touch and go as I will be missing out on those crucial moments," Haydn previously said about his decision to still to The Block. "But the decision has been made and my lovely wife Chelsea has supported me through it."

On what was waterproofing Wednesday for Ricky and Haydn, things were disrupted when the dad-to-be got a call saying the baby was on the way, saying it left him "absolutely spinning".

"I had a million things running through my head about what we're trying to do... and I'm on The Block, I'm at Phillip Island," he said. "It was waterproofing Wednesday, now it's water-breaking Wednesday!"

Thankfully Scott Cam was there to provide a speedy exit, telling Haydn to get straight to the chopper so he wouldn't miss the arrival of his newborn.

On social media, fans congratulated the new dad. "A wonderful end to a long journey. Congratulations guys," one person said. "Block daddddyyyy," some other (potentially thirsty) fan said.

"Congrats Haydn and Chelsea on the new addition - baby Matilda! What a sweet little bundle. Ricky will make a cool godfather!" another person commented.

Some fans on Reddit were less sure of Haydn's decision to go on TV with the baby's birth clashing with filming.

"I’m sorry, but why the hell would you go on The Block if your partner is about to give birth?" one person queried. "To win a million dollars for your kid?" one person retorted.

"I did 5 years of IVF and other treatments and no way I would have let my husband leave the 20km radius of our house a month before our baby was born," someone else said. "Not even if he can win a six figure number?" someone asked in reply.

Some wholesome drama on The Block for once? You gotta love it.
