Bachelor star Matty J admits he was catfished for three months

He recently got down on one knee and proposed to the woman he fell in love with on The Bachelor, but Matty J’s love life wasn’t always so plain sailing.

The 32-year-old famously appeared on The Bachelor in 2017, where he professed his love for Laura Byrne and the pair went on to welcome an adorable baby girl, Marlie-Mae, into the world together last month.

However, speaking on Nova 96.9’s Matt, Sarah & Matty J Saturday breakfast show, Matty recalled a time when his hunt for love led him to being catfished for three months.

"I have been another victim of catfishing…when I was 18 I was very naïve, I was new to social media,” Matty said.

“I was friends with a girl called Chloe Piper beautiful, beautiful young lady.

"We were speaking for about three months and every time we would try to meet up she would then say, 'actually I've just got food poisoning I'm really unwell, I can't do it, I'm so sorry.' Then she moved to another city.

Matty said he tried to contact her again when he moved to Sydney but it never happened and it’s ‘three months of his life he’ll never get back’.

However, things couldn’t have turned out better for the Bondi local, who last month welcomed his adorable daughter into the world.

Taking to social media in June, Matty J introduced his little girl as Marlie-Mae Rose Johnson in a gushing Instagram post.

“Still letting the last 24hrs sink in... they are the most rewarding loving and emotional I’ve ever experienced,” the former Bachelor wrote.

“Becoming a Dad was better than I ever could have imagined.”
