The air fryer hack that guarantees the crispiest roast potatoes: 'Game changer'
A TikToker has revealed their ultimate cooking hack for roast potatoes.
Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like a crispy dish of roast potatoes to accompany a Sunday roast, or just about any meal for that matter.
Well, TikToker AlexHird recently shared her secret to making the crispiest roast potatoes in just 20 minutes using nothing but an air fryer and one secret ingredient - and her fellow foodies are loving it. The crafty potato hack has since gone viral, having been viewed more than 1.1 million times.
“Oh my WOW, who knew tinned potatoes could turn out so good! P.S. Finally got an air fryer and it's changed my life,” she shared alongside the video.
Using a tin of potatoes in water, the woman dried them off with a paper towel before placing them in a bowl with a combination of herbs including salt, pepper, smoked paprika and garlic powder, before finally adding a light spray of olive oil.
After tossing the potatoes for a minute or two, she then places them in the air fryer for 20 minutes at 190 degrees and the result looks totally delicious.

Although some viewers said they'd never consider eating tinned potatoes, no matter how good they looked, most foodies couldn’t wait to give them a go. “10/10 I love doing this,” one person commented. “These look well good for tinned potatoes”.
Meanwhile, others who had already tried it were keen to share their own take on the viral hit. “These are amazing as breakfast potatoes too with a bit of rosemary,” one person added. “I chopped mine into little squares and served with sour cream was delishhh,” explained another.
“Try the potatoes coated in an oxo cube and air fryer.. tastes like roasted potatoes! Perfect for a Sunday roast,” suggested a third. “Some oregano garlic and parsley then serve with sour cream GAME CHANGER,” another added.
However, there was one thing to watch out for. If the heat in the air fryer gets a little too hot, the tiny potatoes can explode.
“Make sure you prick them... mine exploded and burnt my hand,” one person warned, while another said the heat needed to be less than 200 degrees to ensure they don't get too hot.
Looks like we’ll be adding tinned potatoes to our shopping list this week. Hot potato burns aside, these look too good to pass up!
