Taylor Swift Puts a Sexy Twist on Plaid in Corseted, Vampy Look at 2024 MTV VMAs - and It's Giving “Reputation”
Swift, who is up for 12 VMA nominations, made a jaw-dropping appearance on the red carpet — all about her look
Taylor Swift is continuing her show-stopping style hot streak at the 2024 VMAs!
The chart-topper commanded the red carpet at this year's MTV Video Music Awards in one of her most mesmerizing — and daring — looks yet.
Putting a completely sexy spin on her love of all things prep, Swift teamed a yellow plaid bustier top featuring an attached skirt with a pair black velvet hot pants and caged leather gloves, all Dior. She also kept on her thigh-high boot streak in a pair of Stuart Weitzman's Maverick boots, which retail for $1,200 and are currently sold out. She topped the look with extra vampy glam (the smoky eye!) and even ditched her signature red lip. Her hair was styled with mess, textured waves and side-swept bangs. The edgy vibe of the look feels Reputation-coded, and left fans unearthing easter eggs.
And of course she was bejeweled, wearing 30-carat Lorraine Schwartz pear shape canary yellow diamond earrings surrounded by black Jade to play up the the yellow plaid.
Swift scored the most nominations of any artist this year with 12, including artist of the year, video of the year and song of the year. Her "Fortnight" collaborator Post Malone trails her with nine noms.
Last year, fans were calling out Swift for serving Reputation vibes with her look (she's yet to announce her re-recording of the album) when she arrived at the event in a skin-baring Versace gown featuring a thigh-high slit and gold buttons along the ruched bodice. She topped off her look with layers of necklaces and black stilettos, even skipping her signature red lip for a natural, mauve-y shade.
At the time, Versace's Creative Director Donatella Versace shared a sweet note on Instagram about creating the look for her.
She wrote, "@taylorswift, I couldn't have been prouder to design this dress for your gorgeous entrance to the VMAs tonight. You have dominated the world with your tour and your music is timeless. You're already winning big tonight! Love you ♥️"

In 2022, Swift famously made a surprise appearance in a crystal-covered Oscar de la Renta minidress featuring an open back. She paired the glittering design (and made the whole carpet shimmer) with matching Christian Louboutin heels, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and her signature red lip.

Swift tapped beauty icon Pat McGrath for her makeup moment. McGrath called the singer her "angel" on Instagram.
The 2024 VMAs comes on the heels of a very busy week for the star, who is on hiatus from her history-making Eras tour until October.
She kicked off NFL season at boyfriend Travis Kelce's opening game in Kansas City on Sept. 5, wearing a head-turning denim of denim look (including Versace bustier and Grlfrnd denim short-shorts) and thigh-high Giuseppe Zanotti boots. That moment kicked off a string of chic date night looks from the star, including a dreamy dress moment at model Karen Elson's wedding and a preppy red gingham Reformation mini dress at the US Open on Sunday alongside a Gucci-clad Kelce.
Swift has also been focusing on interacting with fans during her tour hiatus and outlining what's important to her — like getting out to vote.
Following Tuesday's presidential debate, the pop icon announced on social media that she was endorsing Kamala Harris for president.
"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," she wrote alongside a photo of herself holding her cat Benjamin. "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades."
She proudly (and famously) signed the note, "Childless Cat Lady."
The 2024 MTV VMAs air on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. ET/ PT live from the UBS Arena in New York.
