The back half of Law and Order: SVU season 26 is almost here, and fans are hoping to see a certain dynamic duo back together again.
The hit NBC series will be back on the air on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 9 p.m. ET, and it's time to see what new cases Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) will tackle with her team. To keep fans excited as they wait, on January 2, the network dropped a sneak peek trailer on Instagram for SVU as well as season 24 of its iconic TV predecessor, Law and Order. As folks saw characters from both shows find themselves in dangerous scenarios, the caption confirmed the shared midseason premiere date.
"The countdown starts NOW. 🚨," read the caption alongside the clip. "#LawAndOrder Thursday returns January 16 on @nbc and streaming on @peacock."
While fans loved seeing Benson, Fin Tutuola (Ice-T), Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish), Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and others, there was one person folks were disappointed not to see. As a result, they went to the comments to demand Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) back on their screens — preferably with none other than Benson herself.
"Hey so, I would like to see Elliot Stabler," one person wrote. "The only thing I want to watch is Olivia and Elliot kissing!!" another exclaimed, referencing the duo's romantic tension over the course of the show. "We want Elliot and Olivia please!" a different follower added.
Although we don't know when (or if) Stabler will return to SVU later this season, he'll still be back in the Law and Order universe at some point.
Law and Order: Organized Crime, the TV spinoff built around his character, will move to Peacock for season 5, and it's only a matter of time before we hear about a release date. "Organized Crime is a very successful show; this isn't a show that was on the bubble," Jeff Bader, President of Program Planning Strategy at NBCUniversal Entertainment, told TVLine in May. "It's a show that works across the board, and it's very, very strong on streaming."
Fingers crossed that we'll get an update on Stabler in some form very soon!
