Sutton Foster to divorce Ted Griffin after 10 years of marriage

Broadway and "Younger" star Sutton Foster is ending her marriage to screenwriter Ted Griffin just shy of their 10-year wedding anniversary.

The 49-year-old Broadway actress on Tuesday filed for an uncontested divorce, according to New York County Superior Court records reviewed by USA TODAY. She and Griffin, 53, were married on Oct. 25, 2014, according to reports at the time. The two share a 7-year-old daughter Emily.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Foster and Griffin for comment.

Foster, a two-time Tony winner, is finishing her run as Princess Winnifred the Woebegone in the Broadway production of "Once Upon a Mattress." Griffin's credits include "Ocean's Eleven" and episodes of the ABC drama series "9-1-1."

Speaking with USA TODAY in 2014 about her starring role in the Broadway musical "Violet" — which earned Foster a best-actress Tony nomination — she opened up about how she related to her character, who took a Greyhound bus from North Carolina to Oklahoma to erase a facial scar sustained in an accident. At the time, Foster was engaged to Griffin.

"This will be my second marriage. I feel like I'm beginning a whole new chapter of my adulthood, and Violet's journey speaks to me on so many levels," Foster said. "She feels such shame and despair, and then she finally meets someone who sees beyond her flaws and sort of loves her because of them.

"It's a powerful message, because no one is perfect, and we seek partners to share our lives with who can weather whatever lies ahead," she added. "I feel like I've found that person I want to get on the bus with. And that's really exciting."
