Orgasms are as much a part of your health as brushing your teeth or eating a healthy diet. And while some still believe it’s a ‘taboo’ subject, there are so many more benefits to climaxing than simply feeling A-ma-zing.

Sex and Relationship Expert, Pamela Supple, has told Yahoo Lifestyle that orgasms actually play a huge role in women’s overall health and wellbeing.

However, as many as one in three women have trouble reaching orgasm when having sex and are missing out on those benefits, according to Planned Parenthood statistics.

Pamela, an ambassador for Womanizer, has shared some of the surprising effects having an orgasm can actually have on your body.

Helps with pain relief

“Not only do orgasms offer a euphoric ecstasy, but they also release ‘feel-good’ chemicals and hormones including oxytocin and endorphins,” Pamela tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “The release of oxytocin has been associated with pain relief.”

Leads to better sleep

“Orgasms also help to facilitate deep relaxation by boosting endorphin levels and flushing cortisol – your body’s stress hormone released by the adrenal glands,” she says. “Along with being a natural stress relief and anti-inflammatory agent, these endorphins also aid in better sleep.”

Can regulate appetite

According to Pamela, the hormones released during an orgasm can energise your hypothalamus gland – which helps your body regulate appetite, body temperature and emotions.

Keeps you looking younger

Yes, having regular orgasms can help slow down the ageing clock. “They keep you looking younger for longer, thanks to the increased blood circulation in our brains during climax, which prompts nutrients and oxygen to travel to the brain,” Pamela explains. “Through this boost of nutrients and oxygen, orgasms assist in tissue repair.”

Can improve digestion

“The overall lymphatic massage that climaxing provides helps our body’s natural detoxification process, which also helps improve your digestion and moods,” Pamela says.
