Sunrise star shocks fans with high school throwback photo: ‘Wow!’

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has shocked fans – not with an outrageous joke or on-air stunt – but rather by posting a high school throwback photo on Instagram.

Sam, who is well known for his comedic antics on the Channel 7 breakfast show, shared the pic online to celebrate his first hosting job.

“Where it all began,” he captioned the post. “My first EVER emcee gig.”

Sam explained to his followers that the photo was from Year 9 when he was asked by a friend to host their fashion parade.

“The first (and only) documented case of a girl willingly talking to me in high school,” he added.

The 40-year-old went on to explain he gave his friend three conditions when he took on the gig.

“I wanted the five saddest looking balloons she could find on a wall,” Sam joked.

“I wanted a Jay Jays sticker hastily slapped on an antique lectern.

“And I insisted that she find me a suit with identical dimensions to SpongeBob Squarepants.”

Fans took to the comments to praise the weatherman for his quirky style.

“You haven’t aged a bit, wowza!” one follower wrote.

“You look so cute,” someone else added, while a third person said, “you never fail to give me a laugh Sam!”.

Sam's 'bizarre' Sunrise stunt

The 2019 Gold Logie nominee has made quite the name for himself with his practical jokes and cheeky sense of humour.

He shocked his Sunrise colleagues earlier this week with a bizarre stunt from the Darrell Lea confectionery factory in Sydney.

During his weather segment, Sam decided to place his mouth under the conveyor belt dropping liquorice to try out the goods for himself.

“No, isn't that a health and safety issue?” a stunned Natalie Barr exclaimed.

Her fellow co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch agreed, saying: “In Covid times you can't do that!”

A shocked Edwina Bartholomew also added: “Look at the manager in the red hair net has rushed over [to stop it]. That's just ruined a whole batch.”

Sam attempted to crack a joke about his actions on-air, saying: “That was strategic guys, it means I get that box now.”
