For Michael Kors, fashion and travel have always gone hand in hand. The designer often draws inspiration from far-flung locales, crafting versatile pieces that exude effortless elegance, no matter where they’re worn.

To shoot their spring campaign, the brand traveled to sunny Ibiza, where photographer Mert Alas captured the collection’s Mediterranean-inspired spirit on actor and musician Suki Waterhouse, who made waves last year for her ethereal bohemian style while on tour in support of her album Memoir of a Sparklemuffin. From airy button-ups to textured mini dresses and bold gold jewelry, the pieces are designed for easy mixing, matching, and packing—which is just what you want out of a vacation wardrobe.

“Ibiza is the perfect destination–it’s got charm, character, great beaches and this wonderful sort of hippie boho vibe mixed with a very modern glamour,” says Kors of the campaign’s vibrant setting. “And I’m beyond excited about our cast this season. Suki is the epitome of a hyphenate—a fabulous singer, writer, performer and actress with amazing personal style.”

Actor and producer Logan Lerman also stars in the campaign, which was shot at Montesol Experimental Hotel. In operation for nearly one hundred years, it has hosted everyone from Princess Caroline of Monaco to members of Pink Floyd.

The campaign also kicks off Hotel Stories, a new content series from Michael Kors. Each season, the series will spotlight a different boutique hotel, which will serve as the backdrop for both product and lifestyle shoots. Additional travel content showcasing the hotel’s local culture will follow, including interviews with local artisans, from ceramicists to yogis.

To celebrate the campaign and the launch of Hotel Stories, Bazaar spoke with Waterhouse about her experience shooting in Ibiza and the Michael Kors pieces she’s most excited about.

How did you become involved in this Michael Kors campaign?

I had an ongoing relationship with Michael Kors from going to their shows. Last season, I was beyond excited because [I got to wear] this incredible pink coat and it was my dream outfit to wear to a show and I felt like it was something that I could have taken on tour with me. It was very much the Sparklemuffin aesthetic of my tour. So, when the brand mentioned to me at the show like, "Oh, maybe we'll be doing something together,” I remember being like, "Oh, that would be amazing." A couple of months later, I was flying to Ibiza for this incredible shoot with Mert, who I've been friends with for a long time. We actually ended up shooting in the same house that I [had previously] stayed in with Mert. It's pretty rare that we'll shoot a campaign where it's like, "We're all going to Ibiza together for a couple of days.

Is it fun you get to vacation a little bit and explore these new areas of the world?

Michael Kors is all about travel and glamour. I told a little fib when I was going and I said, "I have to get there a couple of days early for fittings and stuff," but I actually had one whole day laying in the sun. Georgia [May Jagger] always tells me about her mom’s [modeling gigs] back in the '90s. She’s like, "Everyone would arrive a week early and have a full trip before they would shoot so that they were rested and glowing and hadn’t just stumbled off a plane." It's just an entirely different thing when you actually get a moment to enjoy your surroundings and then shoot in them.

Does this campaign feel like a natural fit for you in terms of what you’re typically drawn to style-wise?

I've always gone to Michael Kors for an incredible coat. They also know how to make great travel bags and beautiful pieces that are easy to wear. I think that's Michael's core belief, is that you should feel beautiful but in an effortless way. I have different sides [when it comes to my style]. One side just wants to be in huge coats and crazy outfits, and I feel very comfortable in that place. And the other side is me in my day-to-day life where I need to have very easy pieces around me and I really go for dressing as comfortably elegantly as possible.

You just attended the runway show for Michael Kors's fall collection. What did you think? Any favorite pieces?

I felt like I was literally almost running out of my seat at his most recent runway show. I was incredibly excited by it. And everyone around me was... You sit next to Kerry Washington, and Rose Byrne, and all these incredible women, and everyone was murmuring, "Oh, my God, do you see that?" And, "Oh, I want to wear that tomorrow." That show felt like this new chapter and I was loving it. There were big dramatic coats. There were what looked like furry bags but they were gloves. There were incredibly large fuzzy hats—really amazing statement pieces like that. My personal favorite—they had these scarves that look like blankets. I think it's the most glamorous thing to have an obnoxiously huge scarf that you can snuggle up in. I was like, "Oh, my God, I have to have one of those.” I can wrap my baby in it, I can sleep on it on the plane, I can look glamorous in it down the street. I love those big chunky things that make me feel like I’m enclosed in my own cocoon yet also glamorous at the same time.

Where did you love going when you were in New York for fashion week?

I went to Cosme in the Lower East Side. And to Corner Store, which was great for dinner. I think that place is fabulous!
