“Suits” Creator Aaron Korsh Is 'Not Trying to Replace' the 'Beloved' Original Cast with “Suits LA”, Says He's 'Open' to Cameos

Korsh opened up about creating the series, which he wrote originally "as its own thing, not a 'Suits' spinoff" in a fan Q&A on X

Aaron Korsh is not mincing his words when it comes to Suits LA.

The 58-year-old, who created Suits and is now helming its West Coast spinoff series, answered fan questions on X on Jan. 26, and he set the record straight on some speculation about how the show will standalone while also paying tribute to the original series.

In response to a fan's concern about the potential for Suits LA to "ruin" the names of some original characters, he praised the "great" spinoff ensemble, which includes Stephen Amell and Bryan Greenberg, as he wrote, "Not trying to replace our beloved originals. Just a new crew working in a different city handling different kinds of cases."

He continued to emphasize that the spinoff is its own standalone project, as he wrote in another tweet, "It seems like people are all wishing it was the originals back. I expected this and can’t blame them. I can only hope they give #SuitsLA an open-minded try. If they do, I really believe they will grow to love it."

Though Suits LA "does have overlap" with the original series, which concluded in 2019 after nine seasons, Korsh wrote that it is "100% its own thing."

"If you liked the original and give this a fair shot, I find it hard to believe you won’t come to love it," he said.

Korsh also weighed in on Gabriel Macht returning as Harvey Specter, which was confirmed in November, as well as the possibility of more cameos from some Suits OGs. "The network very much wanted one original member. If you watch, you’ll see that from a story standpoint Harvey made the most sense," he wrote.

He also revealed in that tweet that he initially wrote the show "as its own thing, not a Suits spinoff."

As for the chances that familiar faces like Patrick J Adams' Mike, Sarah Rafferty's Donna or Meghan Markle's Rachel could appear in the spinoff, he said that "remains to be seen" but he's "open" to the idea. His main priority right now, as he made clear, is to "launch these characters on this show."

Suits LA sees Amell as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who "has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles," according to an official synopsis.

Black's firm is at a "crisis point," though, and "in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career."

"Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives," the description continues. "All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved."
