'The Substance' star Margaret Qualley brings dad to Golden Globes, talks 'Happy Gilmore 2'
Margaret Qualley had a surprise plus-one to Sunday's Golden Globe Awards.
The fast-rising star, nominated for her brilliant supporting turn in "The Substance," told Variety during the red carpet livestream that she had initially planned to bring her husband, musician Jack Antonoff, with her to the show.
"He's not here, he’s sick," Qualley said. "But my dad's here instead, so that’s nice. He actually has (attended the Globes) before. I think it's been 20 years, but he's here."
For the uninitiated: Her dad is former model Paul Qualley, who was married to her famous mom, actress Andie MacDowell, until 1999. After their split, MacDowell briefly dated Dennis Quaid, who coincidentally co-stars with Qualley in "The Substance."
Qualley, 30, has earned nods from the Globes and Critics Choice Awards for her go-for-broke work in showbiz satire "The Substance," playing a younger version of Demi Moore's fading star Elisabeth Sparkle. The body-horror comedy is up for five awards at Sunday's Globes, including best actress (Moore) and best director (Coralie Fargeat).
Qualley, who stunned in a custom Chanel dress Sunday, has also starred in films including "Drive-Away Dolls," "Sanctuary" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Up next, she will appear in "Happy Gilmore 2," which reunites Adam Sandler and Julie Bowen for a sequel to the 1996 sports comedy.
"It's the best thing that's ever happened to me, it's my favorite movie of all time," Qualley told Variety on the red carpet. "I've got a very small part. I begged for it."
She was nominated for best supporting actress at the Globes, where Zoe Saldana took the award for Mexican cartel musical "Emilia Pérez."
