The film follows a studious New York City teenager who has his world upended when he falls for a charismatic beatmaker (played by Reid) who recruits him to join her Litefeet dance crew, forcing him to choose between a safe academic path and his rekindled love of dance.
For Taylor, a Harlem native who first made a name for herself working as a choreographer and dancer, the project will allow the talented multi-hyphenate to further expand her resume into directing while simultaneously tapping into her roots. Pivoting from a successful music run, the R&B superstar has embarked on a creative renaissance over the past few years, adding actress, producer, director, choreographer and stylist credits to her incredible career.
Most recently, she starred in Focus Features’ A Thousand And One, which bowed at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival before Focus Features opened later in the year, earning Taylor strong reviews.
On an equally impressive creative run, Reid has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after and talented young actors, recently earning her first Emmy award for outstanding guest actress In a drama series for her work as Riley in the HBO hit series The Last Of Us.
On the film side she was most recently seen in Warner Bros. The Nun 2, which bowed in September.
Last year, Khalabo Ink Society released the Netflix original film You People, directed and co-written by Barris. The successful comedy debuted at #1 in over 73 countries and went on to become one of the streamer’s most watched films of the year. Khalabo also launched the first podcast under its deal with Audible, DJ Drama Presents: Gangsta Grillz.
Taylor is repped by WME and Taylormade Management Group, Reid is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360 and Granderson Des Rochers and Barris and Khalabo are repped by WME, Artists First and attorney Gregg Gellman at Yorn Levine.
