This year, we are thrilled to honor Stephen Schwartz and Bonnie Greenberg with our Icon and Legacy awards. Their individual contributions to the craft of storytelling with music are immeasurable and have had an indelible impact on our community.”
Previous recipients of the Icon Award include Robbie Robertson, Paul Williams, Diane Warren, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, Kenny Loggins and Marc Shaiman. Previous recipients of the Legacy Award include Allan Mason, Pilar McCurry, Mitchell Leib, Maureen Crowe, Bob Hunka, Joel Sill, Gary Lemel and Chris Montan.
Schwartz is currently Oscar-shortlisted for collaborating with John Powell on the instrumental score for “Wicked.”
The film has become the biggest box-office adaptation of a stage musical since 2008’s “Mamma Mia,” generating over $634 million worldwide.
Speaking about the film’s success and its viral moments, Schwartz told Variety, “I’m enjoying seeing different things that come that I’ve seen very recently. One was librarians at the Library of Congress who somehow had memorized the choreography for ‘What Is This Feeling?’ and were performing it in the aisles, which was wild. They were very good at it, too, and how they managed to learn that choreography, I have no idea.”
The awards ceremony will take place on Feb. 23 at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards honor the craft of music supervision.
