Stars Join marie claire To End Domestic Violence

How to end domestic violence once and for all? Our Watch has the answer. The national body combating violence against women and children believes we need to tackle gender stereotypes and sexist assumptions early, and often.

What you learn as a child shapes the adult you become. The best way to deal with negative assumptions about domestic violence is to pull them out at the root by educating our kids.

So, in our April issue, we have teamed up with Our Watch and MIMCO with a whole host of Australian celebrities recreating some of their favourite childhood memories in our #BePartOfTheChange campaign.

There’s Jesinta Campbell in tutu and pointe shoes in a ballet class, Dannii Minogue singing into her hairbrush at a slumber party, Ian Thorpe in a paddling pool and Megan Gale climbing a tree.

"Being a mum you become highly aware that a young person is copying what you say and do, and they will repeat those things," Minogue told us.

"It makes you very conscious of how important it is to get in early with education to stop the cycle of domestic violence."

For supermodel Megan Gale, the campaign was even more personal because she recently became a mother for the first time.

"I really hope my son will grow up in a world where [there is] more of an even eke between women and men, and that domestic violence is a thing of the past. That’s why I love this campaign – it’s trying to break the cycle of abuse by focusing on educating our kids.”

Want to join our campaign? It’s easy to make a difference. Our partner MIMCO has joined Our Watch to create three pouches etched with powerful, inspirational words, with 100% of the profits going towards Our Watch initiatives (including a program to help new parents foster equality and respect in their family, and a children’s book about tolerance).

You can buy the pouches and support Our Watch for $99.95 at MIMCO stores around the country, mimco.com.au or styledymarieclaire.com.au.

These MIMCO pouches are available for puchase from mimco.com.au and styledbymarieclaire.com.au now.
