Sometime Netflix Stars Harry and Meghan Mocked at Streamer’s Annual Event
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, once the brightest stars in the Netflix firmament, were mocked in front of Netflix bosses at the streamer’s annual jamboree launching their 2025 season of shows.
In what many will see as a telling sign of just how far the once-golden couple’s star has fallen, Harry and Meghan’s projects were otherwise not even mentioned at the big event, attended by Bela Bajaria, the chief content officer, or in brochures promoting new shows at the launch.
The Telegraph reported that comedian John Mulaney joked of his new unscripted chat show: “This is a really fun experiment. Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.”
Although Harry and Meghan’s documentary dishing on their royal relatives was a huge hit, they have struggled to land any comparable successes since.
Meghan’s new cooking show is due out in March, having been delayed by the L.A. fires.
At one stage, the Telegraph reported, Netflix talked up their “excitement” at “a very posh series coming later this year that will really spice up your life,” only for the 90-second clip to reveal a new docu-series from Victoria Beckham.
The Sussexes were once heralded as Netflix’s golden duo who promised “content that informs but also gives hope” through a “truthful and relatable lens.”
Last year amid the failure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s five-part documentary about polo, sources told the Daily Mail that Netflix executives were “exhausted” from working with Markle.
The couple’s creative ability was also mocked in a recent Vanity Fair article, which said Harry had proposed interviewing Vladimir Putin for a series on psychopaths.
