‘SNL50’ Weekend Update Welcomes Back Former Anchors Seth Meyers, Bill Murray; Colin Jost Jokes A-List Audience Went To Diddy’s Parties

For SNL50: The Anniversary Special, Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che poked fun at the late-night show’s lor(n)e and welcomed former hosts Seth Meyers and Bill Murray to their old posts.

“It is an honor and a thrill to be hosting Weekend Update for the 50th — and if it was up to our president, final — season of SNL,” Jost began. “It is incredible that SNL is still going after all this time, and I am just talking about tonight’s show.”

He added that the night’s special taping was so full that some big names had to view the festivities from “Studio 8G next door, as well as from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn,” flashing an image of disgraced rapper Sean Combs on screen. When laughs were somewhat sparse, Jost quipped that it was clear some attendees “went to the parties,” referring to P. Diddy’s “freak-offs.”

Che continued that the storied sketch comedy show has earned 95 Emmys and “has over 100 Tonys on the crew,” all of whom he congratulated for getting their January 6th pardons from President Donald Trump.

Another standout was the reintroduction of Meyers, in conversation with Lorne Michaels’ “best friends from growing up,” portrayed by Vanessa Bayer and Fred Armisen clad in trapper hats and Canadian puffer vests. While they were initially incredibly gracious toward their old buddy — with Bayer saying she would gladly give up her organs to him after death — the two soon began whispering in fear about a bizarre incident where a less-than-kind Michaels ordered them to pack up his entire apartment for him.

Also appearing was Murray, who made a ranking of the top 10 Weekend Update hosts of all time, which notably did not include Jost who was sat beside him. Tina Fey, however, claimed two spots — due to her partnership with Jimmy Fallon and Amy Poehler, the latter duo gaining a higher standing because “girl on girl is still very, very popular.”

In more nostalgic moments, Cecily Strong showed up as The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party, whose time was crashed by Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle.
