SNL’s Colin Jost and Michael Che Exchange Wildly Inappropriate Jokes — With Scarlett Johansson Watching

SNL’s Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che did their annual joke exchange this week — and Jost had a very interested party watching in the audience.

Jost and Che end each year by writing horribly offensive jokes for each other to read on air, sight unseen, and this year, Jost prefaced things (as Che dictated) by announcing that he would be reading all of his jokes “in a Black voice, so I don’t get in trouble.” He then had to read jokes about his wife Scarlett Johansson… with Johansson watching live backstage. (She made a cameo earlier in the episode to celebrate Martin Short’s induction into the SNL Five-Timers Club.)

Johansson visibly braced herself as Jost began his joke by dedicating it to “my boo, Scarlett Johannson.” He noted that she just celebrated her 40th birthday, “which means I’m about to get up outta there!” He then added that “we just had a kid together, and y’all ain’t seen no pictures of him yet… because he Black as hell!” Later, Jost reported that Costco is dropping its roast beef sandwich, adding that he’s been “eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.” He apologized to Johansson, saying: “You know I don’t go downtown… That’s gay as hell!”

Che didn’t get out unscathed: He celebrated Moana 2′s box office success because “like me and my good friend Jeffrey Epstein used to say: There’s nothing like an island adventure with a teenage girl.” He also stood up for embattled music mogul Diddy, telling him “we’re Bad Boys for life” and promising: “I’ll say the same thing I always said at your parties: I will help get you off.”
