Aussie fans were left devastated in October last year when fast food chain Sizzler announced they would be closing their doors after 35 years.
Now, TikToker, Air Fryer Guy, has tried to fill the gap their cheese toast left in the market, conjuring up his very own Sizzler cheese bread air fryer recipe.
In a video which has been viewed nearly 200,000 times, the Air Fryer Guy explains how he recreates the dish at home, and it’s a lot simpler than you might think.
First, he takes some white Bakers Delight bread and slices it into thick slices.
Then he crushes butter in a bowl until it is soft and mixes in Coles parmesan cheese.
He spreads the mixture on both sides before placing it in an air fryer for between five to seven minutes at 200c and letting it work its magic. He also turns it over in the middle when the top layer is golden.
The end result looks nearly identical to the Sizzler cheese bread, with the mixture forming a golden layer of goodness on the bread.
People online are going wild for the recipe, with one person commenting on TikTok: “That looks better than the original one”.
“I am making it right now,” another person wrote, with another adding: “Looks delicious”.
Others pointed out that the cheese used in the original Sizzler recipe was in face pecorino cheese.
In November, as a parting gift to Australia, Sizzler actually released the recipe for their famous cheese toast, which consists of thick white bread, pecorino cheese and margarine.
The first step is to combine equal amounts of margarine and pecorino cheese in a bowl.
When it forms into a paste, spread that evening over one side of the bread and put it in a low-medium flat grill, paste side down.
Toast for about a minute until the whole surface is brown and it’s ready to eat.
At the beginning of October, fans were left devastated when the restaurant chain announced they would be shutting up shop.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that after 35 years it is time to say goodbye.
The difficult decision has been made to close all remaining Sizzler Australia restaurants this November,” they wrote on their social media account.
“We are so very grateful to our dedicated staff and we want to thank each and every one of our customers for supporting us and creating and sharing memories at Sizzler over the past 35 years.
“Our restaurants will remain open until the last day of trade on 15 November 2020 (excluding Maroochydore), so there is still time to enjoy all your grill and Salad Bar favourites.
“We hope to see you all for one last slice of Cheese Toast.”
