Sheinelle Jones' Sudden 'Today' Absence Is Finally Explained

Today show star Sheinelle Jones is back on air after a brief hiatus, but until recently, fans were unsure as to why she’d been missing.

The co-host of the morning show’s third hour revealed on Monday, Nov. 18 where she’d been the previous Friday instead of at the NBC program.

“I wasn't here Friday, I went right outside of Philadelphia to speak with the Society of Professional Women,” she shared.

Jones continued, stating that she “stayed until the very end and talked to almost every single one of the women when it was over. I love that kind of stuff.”

According to Hello, Jones said she then went home and “was a soccer mom.”

NBC News Now anchor Savannah Sellers filled in for Jones on Friday and took her place.

Sellers often fills in for missing hosts on the morning talk show. The day before, she filled in on the 3rd Hour after Dylan Dreyer was absent for Thursday's show.

Al Roker and Craig Melvin round out the rest of the usual group, with Melvin recently named as Hoda Kotb’s successor as co-host of the Today show after she announced she would be leaving the program in early 2025.

The fourth hour of Today will also be getting a shake-up once Kotb departs. Until a permanent successor is hired, the program will feature a rotating cast of co-hosts alongside Jenna Bush Hager, with the segment being called "Jenna & Friends."

“This show is going to be all about friendship. We have so many amazing guests and friends and family that are part of the DNA of this show, and they are going to be coming along for the ride,” said Hager on Nov. 14.
