‘Shazam!’ Star Zachary Levi Takes Playful Nepo-Bro Swipe At DC Actor Sean Gunn

Even though audiences might not exactly be counting the days until another Shazam! movie — this year’s sequel Fury of the Gods was savaged by critics and DC fans — star Zachary Levi says he’d be pumped for more installments.

“I would love to be able to do more iterations of it,” Levi said in an interview with Comicbook.com. “I would love to collaborate with Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern.”

But if Shazam won’t be flying onto screens anytime soon, would Levi be interested in playing another DC character?

When asked the question, the actor seemed skeptical that jumping into a new DC character would even be possible. Reminded that Sean Gunn, the actor (and brother of DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn) who played Weasel and Calendar Man in 2021’s The Suicide Squad has been cast as villain Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe, Levi quipped, “Listen, when you’re the brother of the guy who runs DC, I guess you get to play who you want.”

Sean Gunn also will voice Weasel in the upcoming animated TV series Creature Commandos.

As for Shazam, Levi said: “I’m really proud of both films. I really think the second film was, in some respects, better than the first, and the first was really good. I’m really proud of both of them.”

Levi’s new film, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, premieres December 15 on Netflix.
